Sailing for a better
future
Now in its thirteenth year, The EMC
Silicon Cup is a unique combination of serious fund-raising,
fantastic networking and enormous enjoyment.
The event came to life when four senior people in the
IT industry decided to combine their passion and their
profession to raise meaningful amounts of money for
charity - since the first event it has raised over £500,000
for its nominated charities.
In 2011 the event took place in September and
attracted over 40 yachts, 450 attendees and notable
funds for charity… in 2012 the objective is to attract over
50
entries and raise over £60,000 for the charities.
Over the years entrants at have been
many and varied, attracting a wide range of companies
from across the technology sector including service
providers, telecoms, manufacturers, software developers,
channel partners and other related suppliers, as well
as IT teams from other industry sectors.
The majority of key industry players are represented
at the event, either as event entrants or as their guests
– logos such as BT, EMC, Equinix, Hewlett-Packard, Intel, IBM, Microsoft
and Oracle are all to be seen adorning the yachts.

"I really enjoyed crewing with you all, and massively enjoyed the whole experience.
The team spirit and camaraderie were really high
and it felt like we were working together to do
something". |
